Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
